W124 - New Door Switches and Front Rotors and Brake Pads
So it's been some time since there was some work done on the car. My wife and I had pooled our funds and for another project hence the focus on the car has been reduced. Now that I have some time, the IBS kicked in and with some spare change, I decided to get some work done on the car. The focus is on the front brakes.
I was at the mechanic after a long time, over a month to be precise. I have observed that during braking of the car is juddering and slightly pulls to the left. After discussing with the mechanic, to which he has earlier prompted me that the front rotor needs replacement, it has worn thin.
So after discussing, we went ahead to get all the parts needed, a new pair of front rotors, brake pads, and the brake wear sensor.
When the rotors were removed, it was noticed that they were thin and it was dangerous to drive the car with that brake condition. We also noticed that the rotors appeared to have been skimmed. The OEM rotors were not meant to be skimmed, when it is work or warped, they need to be replaced. The brake pads were not too bad, but they need to be replaced as well since the rotors are being replaced. The front right brake sensor was not installed and the one on the left was broken. As a proper fix, all that needs to be replaced. It was also noticed that the calipers will not properly pressure and depress. The pivot screw seems to have lost all lubrication and a quick greasing sorted that. The last brake service and repair may have been a long time ago that it needs proper servicing.
It was about an hour's worth of work and the brakes were refreshed. The rear has been refreshed earlier, as in a few months ago, and is in good working condition.
While the mechanic was at it, I also got him to install the door switch for all doors. It was as simple as unplugging and locking it back in place with 2 wires attached.
As usual, the brakes are a little weak after a brake job until the new brake pads have bed-in properly. The observed juddering is no longer there.
The Rhino now has restored brakes and I am in a safer car.
